At Bakeris Roofing, I can’t do all the work myself, so I make sure I hire the right people. For one thing, I like getting more good people into our part of the trades. For another, I want to maintain our great safety record at Bakeris Roofing – it’s key to keeping our workman’s comp rate so low. I’m very proud of our hiring requirements at Bakeris Roofing. The result is a set of employees who’ve earned our Technician Seal of Safety.

Our employees have got to meet certain requirements before getting into one of our trucks or even before pushing a pencil in the office. That way, we’re going to minimize your risk when we come to your house or we do anything for you. We’re doing our due diligence as an employer to make sure that we’re hiring the right people. How we do that is, number one, by doing nationwide pre-employment background checks.

We also do drug testing. Anyone employed at our company will be drug tested at the time they start, and then after that, we do random drug testing. A statistic out there, especially in the construction world, is that if you have ten employees and you mention that they’re going to be drug tested, that stops eight people at the door before they even come in to fill out an application or do an interview, or even before they send in their resume. So you have two left out of that ten. When those two take their drug tests, only one of them is going to be left. That’s who we’re going to hire.

Another thing we require from employees – because they’ll be going out to people’s homes and properties – is a driver’s license. A driver’s license is also an indication that a person is socially responsible. If they can’t drive for us, they can’t work for us. Not only do they have to pass a drug test and the background check, they have to have a license. But just because they’ve met all those requirements doesn’t mean they’re still going to work at our company.

We also want to make sure that they have the right fit with Bakeris Roofing. They’re going to meet with various employees before they ever to talk to me. First, there’s a phone interview. Then, they’re going to come in and meet with one of our staff members. Next, they’re going to be interviewed by two more staff members. Finally, if it’s a thumbs up and a green light, they’re going to interview with me. So we’re pretty thorough about the people we hire. Someone might meet all the initial requirements, but, again, they have fit well into Bakeris Roofing’s team. We’re very thorough. We’re not about the almighty quick dollar at Bakeris Roofing. We only put people on your property who will take good care of you.

When we bring our employees to your home, we’re giving you the safety, security, and comfort that you deserve as a homeowner. We take the time and the extra steps to find the right people: that’s really what all this is for. It may cost us a couple of dollars more, but our Technician Seal of Safety is all part of making Bakeris Roofing the best, along with providing more than adequate general liability insurance and worker’s comp, and being an Owners Corning Preferred Contractor.

We do it the right way at Bakeris Roofing, so please contact us at 515-967-8199. Bakeris Roofing has been providing safety, security, and comfort – those three big words I’ve been talking about – in Des Moines and its surrounding communities for over 20 years.
