No Roof Left Behind, a Community Event
Bakeris Roofing is especially pleased to be involved in a project that gives back to our community. Established in 2009 and called No Roof Left Behind, the program was the brainchild of a Michigan home building and roofing company owned by two brothers in business for over 20 years. When economic conditions began sliding downward, and because they are tied in so closely with the automotive industry, the end result was a lot of people losing their homes. Maintaining homes became yet another unaffordable expense for many people, even simple jobs involving exterior maintenance. If they needed a new roof, it was not easily affordable; thus, this company wanted to do something to help ease the burden of those maintenance issues.
How it Works
Through the Michigan company’s efforts, the entire program evolved into a community event where anyone in need can be nominated as a possible recipient in this program. It can be a family member or a friend and all you need to do is visit the website, No Roof Left Behind. You will find information on this site to help you in your nomination, but here is a brief summary of the process:
• Photos should be uploaded, as well as a brief story about the person or family in need of a new roof
• Volunteers review the nominees and select four finalists
• The four finalists are revealed and public voting begins
• The winner is revealed online
• The community comes together for an Installation Celebration
Nominations will be accepted from March 1st through July 19th. Nominations will be reviewed from July 20th through August 1st and those results become available to the public through the use a Facebook page. The public can then vote from August 2nd through September 6th for their favorite nominee, and the final decision will be revealed on September 9th.
There are a few stipulations for nominees in our area and they are A) the nominee must reside within Polk County; B) the nominee must be current on their mortgage; and C) the nominee must be current with their property taxes.
Once the winner is revealed, we will have an Installation Celebration right in front of the winner’s home and the actual roof installation will be completed by the end of September. The best way to find out more about this entire process is through the website at No Roof Left Behind where a video will explain this in much better detail. I will also be covering more about this in upcoming blog posts.
