Think Carefully Before Cleaning Snow off the Roof

At Bakeris Roofing, we deeply care about homeowners’ safety. That’s why we recommend that you’re extremely careful if you ever decide that you’re going to clean snow buildup from your home’s roof. If you’re worried about ice dams or drift on the rooftop, consider whether it’s really worth it to clear the snow on your own. Remember, Bakeris Roofing can do the job for you and prevent the risk of injury.

If you are confident enough to do the job yourself, the cheapest tool that you can buy (which will probably save yourself from becoming injured in the process) is called a roof rake. This tool, which is basically a plastic shovel, will allow you to stand safely on the ground and pull the snow right off of the roof. It’s even possible to use a roof rake to reach above a two-story building if the roof rake has a telescoping pole or extension pole.

Above all else, don’t try to do the job if it means risking your safety. Even though you think it might save a few hundred dollars, there’s a very real possibility that you’ll become injured in the process. A visit to the emergency room will end up costing way more than what you were trying to save. It might end up in having to pay a deductible, missed work, or even serious harm to your body. Even falling from a short height can result in serious injuries, and at Bakeris Roofing, we’d never want to see that happen.

For all the people out there that say they actually like going up and cleaning their own gutters, I’m a bit skeptical about that claim. Really? Wouldn’t you rather be spending time with your family or playing your favorite sport or game? Not only that, but we hear stories all the time on the news about accidental injuries that were completely preventable. There’s no need to put yourself at risk of falling off the ladder during the process of grabbing those last bits of debris from the gutters.

Bakeris offers Overhead Care Club membership, which includes a twice-a-year inspection, cleaning of gutters and roof debris for only $240. Compare that price and all the associated perks to the cost of treating an injury.

If you’d like Bakeris Roofing to take care of all that snow on your roof, prevent you from getting hurt, and save that time to do something you’d rather be doing, give us a call today at (515) 967-8199.

Great advice to keep in mind year-round-- people underestimate just how dangerous it can be dealing with even a small amount of snow on a roof installation.
