When Someone Comes Knocking

If someone shows up knocking at your door asking to take care of something on the roof, they might be trustworthy and reputable. However, there is also a chance that they’re not. Here are three signs that they might not be legitimate:
- You don’t see a clearly marked vehicle out front with their company name on it.
- They aren’t wearing a shirt with their name and/or the company name on it.
- They are using excessive pressure to get you to hire them.
There are legitimate businesses that exhibit these traits, but you should be leery.
At Bakeris Roofing, we may stop by to let the homeowner know that we noticed an issue and tell them that we are a roofing contractor in the area. If we see a home that has clear roof problems, such as shingles that have fallen down, we may decide to let them know.
We will also provide contact information and our website for people to learn more. This way, homeowners will be able to see our reputation, learn about our company, and decide for themselves without feeling pressured. We will be driving a company vehicle and/or be wearing a company shirt to identify ourselves.
If someone is knocking at your door and you can’t identify them, remember that you don’t have to open the door for them if you’re not comfortable. If you answer the door for someone who tries to pressure you to hire them, it isn’t a good sign. You should be completely aware of the company’s legitimacy before making your decision. Ask them all the questions you need. If you feel that you’re getting pushback from them, it’s time to shut the door.
Remember, the team at Bakeris Roofing cares about our community. We will let people in the neighborhood know if we’re going to be doing work nearby. If we see that they may have a roofing issue that needs addressing, we might let them know. We don’t think it’s acceptable to blanket solicit homeowners by going through neighborhoods. If however, a serious weather event is occurring, we care to make sure that people’s homes are protected and safe.
