Best Roofing Companies in Pleasant Hill, Iowa (2026)

Roof work on a Pleasant Hill, Iowa home

Pleasant Hill sits in a weird spot for roofing. You're far enough east that the storm tracks rolling out of the Missouri Valley hit you a beat after Des Moines proper, but close enough to the city that every chase-truck contractor with an Altoona zip code shows up after a hailstorm pretending to be local. Add in the mature mid-century stock around East University and the newer builds creeping out toward Copper Creek Lake, and you've got a town where one neighborhood needs a full tear-off and the next one over just needs flashing work. The 2020 derecho is still showing up on inspections out here too. Here's who's actually worth calling in 2026.

How we ranked these

We looked at four things, and we tried to keep it boring on purpose because flashy ranking criteria usually means somebody's hiding something.

First, longevity in the Des Moines metro. A company that's been on this side of the metro for a decade or more has seen the freeze-thaw cycles, the spring hail, and the August straight-line winds. They know what fails on a 1962 ranch versus a 2018 build out by the lake.

Second, manufacturer certifications. Owens Corning Platinum Preferred and GAF Master Elite aren't marketing fluff. They cap out at the top two or three percent of contractors nationally, and they come with extended warranties most independents can't offer.

Third, review depth. Not just star count, but how many reviews and how recent. A 4.9 with 40 reviews is a different animal than a 4.9 with 600+ reviews stretching back five years.

Fourth, how they handle Pleasant Hill specifically. Some of these companies are based in Urbandale or Story City, which means a longer drive when something goes wrong six months after install. That matters.

1. Bakeris Roofing & Exteriors

Bakeris has been doing this since 1990. Thirty-six years, family-owned the whole time, headquartered in Runnells with a satellite office at 1809 Park Ave on the Des Moines east side. That puts their crews about ten minutes from most Pleasant Hill addresses, which is part of why they show up so heavily in the Pleasant Hill service area.

The credentials stack up. Owens Corning Platinum Preferred (top 1% of OC contractors nationwide), BBB A+ rated, and 550+ five-star Google reviews and counting. That review count matters because it's not concentrated in one neighborhood or one year. You see Pleasant Hill, Altoona, Mitchellville, Runnells, and east Des Moines all over their review history, which tells you they're genuinely working this side of the metro and not just claiming it on a service page.

For Pleasant Hill homeowners specifically, they handle the two things that come up most out here. The first is storm and hail work, where they do free estimates on full replacements and storm claims and will walk the insurance process with you. The second is repairs on mid-century roofs around the East University corridor, where they charge a flat $98 service-call fee that gets credited back to you if you move forward with the work. That's a cleaner pricing model than the contractors who quote "free" repair estimates and then load the actual job to make up for it.

Their service radius is sixty miles from Des Moines, which covers Pleasant Hill, Altoona, Bondurant, Ankeny, Pleasant Hill's east stretch toward Mitchellville, and the lake-area builds out by Copper Creek. They do roofing, siding, gutters, and full exterior packages, so if the derecho took out your roof and your soffit on the same day, you're not coordinating two contractors.

Phone is (515) 967-8199. Get on their schedule before peak storm season if you can. They book out fast in May and August.

2. Heartland Roofing, Siding, and Solar

Heartland is based in Des Moines proper and has built up 653+ Google reviews, which is a serious volume number for the metro. They run roofing, siding, and a solar division, which is the part that makes them interesting if you're on a newer Pleasant Hill build out near Copper Creek where rooftop solar actually pencils out.

Their crews work the whole metro, so Pleasant Hill is well within their range. They handle storm restoration and insurance claims, which is the bread and butter for any roofer working the east side after the 2020 derecho left a long tail of delayed claims and partial repairs.

Where Heartland separates from the pack is the integration story. If you're already thinking about adding solar in the next two or three years, getting your roof replaced by a company that also installs panels means you don't have two warranties fighting each other when something goes sideways. That's a real consideration for newer Pleasant Hill construction with the roof orientation to make solar work.

The downside, if you call it that, is they're a bigger operation. You may not get the same crew lead from estimate to install to follow-up that you'd get from a smaller shop. For most jobs that doesn't matter. For complicated work it sometimes does.

3. Right Roofing & Siding

Right Roofing is out of Urbandale with 339+ Google reviews and a GAF Master Elite certification. Master Elite is the top 3% of GAF-certified contractors, which puts them in the same tier as Bakeris is on the Owens Corning side. If your insurance adjuster or your HOA specifically wants GAF shingles, Right is the obvious call.

They're a thirty-minute drive across the metro from Pleasant Hill on a good day, which is something to factor in. Estimate visits are fine. The question is what happens eighteen months in when you've got a leak around a chimney flashing and need someone out same-week. Closer crews tend to respond faster on warranty work, just by the math of how scheduling goes.

That said, the GAF Master Elite designation is real and the workmanship reviews back it up. They're a strong pick for full replacements where the install quality and the warranty length matter more than response time on small repairs.

4. Waddle Exteriors

Waddle is based in Story City with 262+ Google reviews and a stack of manufacturer certifications across multiple shingle and siding brands. They've been around long enough to have a reputation, and they work a wide radius that reaches Pleasant Hill on the south end.

The Story City home base is the tradeoff. It's about an hour drive each way to Pleasant Hill, which means estimates and installs happen on their travel schedule, not yours. For a full exterior replacement where the timeline is already a couple weeks, that's not a real issue. For storm-response work where you need a tarp on the roof tomorrow, it can be.

What Waddle does well is variety. They're not locked into one manufacturer, so if you've got a specific shingle or siding line in mind, there's a good chance they can quote it. Their multi-cert status also helps if you want options across brands rather than one company pushing one product line.

Get an inspection before the next storm cycle

The single best thing you can do as a Pleasant Hill homeowner in 2026 is get a roof inspection on the books before peak storm season. The 2020 derecho is still showing up on inspections out here. We see homeowners who got partial repairs done in late 2020 and early 2021 discovering granule loss, flashing issues, and underlayment problems that didn't surface for three or four years.

If your roof is over fifteen years old, or if your house took derecho damage and you're not sure whether the repair was complete, an inspection now costs you nothing on a replacement quote and a flat $98 on a repair quote (credited back if you move forward). That's cheaper than discovering a leak the hard way in February.

A clean inspection also gives you documentation. If a hailstorm rolls through in May or August, you've got a baseline to compare against, which makes insurance claims faster and cleaner.

Ready to get on the schedule

Bakeris Roofing & Exteriors has been the east metro roofer of record since 1990. Pleasant Hill, Altoona, Mitchellville, Runnells, and east Des Moines are core service area, not afterthoughts. 550+ five-star Google reviews, Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, BBB A+, free estimates on replacements and storm claims, $98 flat repair service-call (credited back), and a sixty-mile service radius from Des Moines.

Call (515) 967-8199 or head over to our contact page to get on the schedule. Spring books up fast, and storm season is right behind it.
